Over the years, the station at Darley Dale has been a particular focus for the DWVRT. However, with an increasingly small group of regular volunteers, this large site has become increasingly difficult to maintain.
On Tuesday 30th September, 14 volunteers from ALSTOM (the UK's leading supplier of new trains and train services - Litchurch Lane in Derby) joined the local team for a full day's work in the station's environs.
This included clearing vast amounts of damaging ivy from car park fences, clearing footpaths adjacent to the station, painting sections of the Midland fencing, revealing the original station wall on Station Road, setting out new planters on both platforms and filling them with a ton of compost and soil, cutting back vegetation and generally tidying up the site.
The ALSTOM team managed in a day what would have taken the small group of local volunteers weeks and weeks. In glorious weather a great day was had by all and the DWVRT and Peak Rail are very grateful for ALSTOM's enthusiasm and hard work.
If you would like to join the local team, or know of other companies in Derbyshire who can offer this type of much appreciated help, please get in touch.
