First Structural Elements of Darley Dale Footbridge Installed

May 2026

There have been a busy few days for Darley Dale station’s footbridge restoration with the installation of the ‘Down’ platform bridge support column on Thursday 14th May 2026. Last week two refurbished staircases and a set of support columns were delivered to Rowsley South yard of Peak Rail. The lattice components of the bridge needs the insertion of several hundred rivets; the start of a huge riveting programme by volunteers of the Peak Railway Association. The column and spandrel castings have been cleaned and repainted into a primer for now, and after a few checks and adjustments were loaded onto a wagon for the trip to Darley Dale. The 'Down' platform foundations have had bolts installed ready to take the columns, and the 'Up' platform foundations are shuttered with bolt boxes in place ready for concrete which was poured on Thursday afternoon. Many thanks to all the volunteers who have been involved in this phase of the work.
