Preliminary work has now been completed preparing the footbridge components for their move to Steelway in the West Midlands for repair and restoration. This has involved Peak Railway Association volunteers putting in many hours removing hundreds of rivets by hand and replacing them with nuts and bolts to allow easier transport to Steelway.
Stairs, panels and rails have been 'flat packed' leaving only the arch of the footbridge as an instantly recognisable feature. Work on the bridge will take several months before the components are returned to Rowsley South at Peak Rail before eventually being reinstalled at Darley Dale station. The Trust is very grateful to Peak Rail PLC for meeting the transport costs of the moves.
